First Impressions

I’ve been to Corfu before, one of my family favourites but always the north. So it was a real treat when it was just a short and really pretty drive along the coast from the airport to Avali by the Marbella Collection and honestly, I was already feeling the holiday vibes before we’d even pulled up.

When we arrived, the welcome was so warm. While they were sorting out the rooms, I headed off for a buffet-style lunch. Delicious food, but the star of the show was that view. As soon as you step outside you’re hit with this gorgeous infinity pool, beautifully kept gardens and the Ionian Sea glistening away in the background. A proper “pinch me” moment.

Settling In

The staff were lovely too. You could tell a few of them were still finding their feet, but they were polite and eager to help. Within minutes I felt relaxed.
Avali is all about wellness and calm. It was still in soft launch when I stayed, so the à la carte restaurants weren’t open yet and entertainment was minimal, but that suits the vibe here. It’s a luxury chill rather than anything lively.

Wellness and Activities

I saw people doing yoga on the lawn, getting massages outside, and I even got a bit of running in (I’m doing Couch to 5K at the moment). The roads nearby are busy, but I still found safe stretches, and there’s a decent little gym if you’d rather stay indoors. Paddle boarding and watersports were on offer too, but again very relaxed, nothing over the top.
One morning I got up for sunrise and stood on the beach , seeing the sun rise over the mainland of Greece, with the water so still and golden, was one of those moments that will stick with me.

Exploring Beyond the Hotel

A taxi into Corfu Town takes about half an hour and it’s definitely worth it if you fancy a bit of culture and buzz. Or you can just wander along the beach from Avali and find a proper family-run taverna. I had moussaka, meze and a cold Mythos, all cooked by Grandma in the kitchen. Total Mamma Mia vibes – perfect.
A big plus here is the dine-around option at the Marbella Collection’s sister hotels. You can hop on the shuttle to Marbella Nido (super stylish, boutique luxury) or Marbella proper (ideal for families). The food and wine at both were spot on.

Who It’s Best For

Speaking of families, Avali does technically allow children over six, but honestly I wouldn’t bring my seven-year-old here. It’s so quiet and peaceful, and the food is definitely more suited to grown-ups. If you’ve got kids, I’d say the Marbella family hotel is a much better shout. Avali is dreamy for couples, friends, honeymooners, or anyone looking to really unwind.

Final Thoughts

So, what did I love most? Honestly, just the simplicity. Days spent lazing by the pool, dipping into the clear sea, sipping cocktails and letting the cicadas provide the soundtrack. By sunset the gardens glow, the sky softens, and you can just sit with a drink in hand and think “this is exactly where I’m meant to be.”

If Avali in Corfu sounds like your kind of escape, I’d love to help you plan your perfect holiday. Get in touch with me and let’s make it happen – I promise the views really are as dreamy as they sound.
