There’s no such thing as a typical work trip when the destination is Jamaica – especially when it’s hosted by TUI and RIU Hotels. For three unforgettable nights, we called the brand-new RIU Palace Aquarelle home.
Located on Jamaica’s stunning north coast near Falmouth, this beachfront resort was the perfect base to soak up the island’s natural beauty, warm hospitality, and vibrant culture. The hotel itself was fantastic – modern, spacious, and beautifully designed. It’s a family-friendly resort with something for everyone, including its very own waterpark, multiple dining options, and entertainment day and night.

Exploring RIU’s Jamaican Gems

Our itinerary was full, giving us the chance to experience some of RIU’s standout properties across the island. Each had its own distinct personality and charm, yet all shared that unmistakable RIU standard of friendly service, quality food, and fantastic locations.
We started at RIU Ocho Rios, known for its lively atmosphere and stunning beachfront setting – a great choice for families and groups looking for fun in the sun. From there, we visited the elegant RIU Palace Jamaica, which offers a more refined and relaxed experience, perfect for couples wanting something extra special.
Next up were RIU Montego Bay and RIU Reggae, two adults-only resorts sitting side by side, each offering a slightly different vibe – Montego Bay with its upbeat energy and Reggae with a more laid-back, romantic feel.
Finally, we travelled west to RIU Negril and RIU Palace Tropical Bay, both set on pristine beaches. These resorts are ideal for those who want to truly unwind, surrounded by turquoise waters and soft white sand. Every stop reminded us just how much variety Jamaica has to offer – from energetic to tranquil, there’s a RIU resort to suit every kind of traveller.

Adventures in Paradise

No trip to Jamaica is complete without a little adventure, and we certainly made the most of it. A highlight was climbing the iconic Dunn’s River Falls near Ocho Rios. Linking hands with our guide and fellow climbers, we made our way up the cascading limestone steps, laughing all the way. The cool, fresh water was the perfect antidote to the tropical heat.
Over in Negril, we experienced the world-famous Seven Mile Beach, which more than lived up to its postcard-perfect reputation. Powdery white sand, clear blue sea, and a gentle island breeze made it the perfect place to unwind.
As the sun began to set, we headed to Rick’s Café, one of Jamaica’s most legendary spots. Watching the cliff divers leap into the sea as live reggae music filled the air was an unforgettable experience. The sunset here was truly spectacular – the kind of view that reminds you why Jamaica is so loved.

A Taste of Jamaica

The food in Jamaica deserves a spotlight all of its own. Every meal was bursting with flavour and colour – just like the island itself. We feasted on smoky jerk chicken, fragrant rice and peas, earthy yams, and freshly caught seafood.
And of course, no Jamaican meal would be complete without a splash of smooth local rum or a cool Red Stripe beer. Every dining experience felt like a celebration of life, music and community. Jamaicans truly know how to make you feel welcome, and their warmth and positivity are infectious.

Reflections

Jamaica has a rhythm that stays with you long after you leave. The mix of natural beauty, lively culture, and genuine hospitality makes it one of the most memorable destinations I’ve ever visited.
Thanks to TUI and RIU Hotels, this “work trip” turned out to be so much more than just a professional experience. It was three days of learning, laughter, and once-in-a-lifetime memories – not to mention a serious craving for Caribbean food that will definitely bring me back one day.
